Villareal is going to steal the closers job. He is all the way back from an arm injury from a year back and has pitching lights out. Also, Cox does not have much loyalty to Reitsma - remember Farnsworth took the job from him last year

According to this site, Devine is next in line:

PS - this site tends to be very accurate...

Interesting site - I'll have to save this.

Couple of observations:
Meker is getting save oppts in Cin
Hernandez in Pit
So I question how updated this site is

Also, it's worth noting that before he blew his arm out Oscar had an ERA of 2.571 and a WHIP of 1.286. Devine has been brutal since his recall. Last thought, Gammons loves this guy Villareal, he has written about him a couple of times as the Braves future closer (for '06 at least)

No way they put Devine anytime soon at the closer spot...he can't even get anyone out.....Villareal will be the man....F that site.

Yeah that site is a little outdated. Devine is throwing pitches five feet off the plate.

Maine has a good swing for a pitcher but on anything that moves, he has no chance. And if it's a fastball, it has to be up in the zone. Basically, the pitcher has to hit his bat. - Mike Pelfrey

I just picked up Villareal. He is the only closer throwing anything but softballs up to the plate. Devine can't get anything under control, and Reitsma just blew another save.

I am banking on Villareal taking over this job as soon as next week. It is somewhat of a gamble, but if you have a spot to stash him it can't hurt.

I gotta agree. Devine has look awful and needs a little more maturity and experience in AAA. In teh short term look for Villareal.

That site stinks. Devine is defititely not second in line. Not to mention Dan Kolb would be number two for Milwaukee, and Roberto Hernandez got a save today for Pittsburgh despite being ranked third in line. Please, I hate inside information that doesn't say anything different then looking at box scores.

Hernandez was just a fluke. Pit had a line of top lefty's coming up in the 8th. Marte had already been used, so MikeGonz was the next lefty option to get a pitching advantage.
