Um, I'm going to have to respectfully disagree with you there, Buddy. We may have the worst pitching staff in the majors. We may have the worst defense in the majors. But it's difficult to make an argument that we're not at least in the top 5 teams in offensive hitting. In fact, I believe we had the most runs scored of any team last year - without the aid of a DH.
That said, anyone who drafted Freel expecting anything more than 1/2-time duty was kidding themselves.
Why is that the case? Everyone in Cincinnati wishes they knew the answer - just like with fantasy players. It just doesn't make sense.
Maybe Freel's body type and style of play are better suited to have off days in order to maximize his skills. Sounds good at least. Never know, the way Cincy has used him might be the most effective. Just trying to give a different look.
The Dayton Daily News' Hal McCoy reports Cincinnati Reds IF Brandon Phillips is the fourth person on the team who can play second base, behind 2B Tony Womack, 2B/3B/OF Ryan Freel and IF Rich Aurilia.
Ain't it just great?
LET FREEL GO ELSEWHERE, maybe you'd get a pretty good pitcher for him. But no, I'm sorry, I forgot the Reds' aim is that all their players are fresh, THEY DO NOT WANT TO MAKE THE PLAYOFFS! I am so sorry.

Maybe it's not a coincidence that they have been terrible over the last few years and now they make a dumb decision like this.
Cincy has bigger problems to worry about rather than whether Womack or Freel starts at 2b. Both are comparable, and neither is that much better than the other. Fantasy owners are drastically overrating Freel due to his SB potential. You guys need to put on your real-world managerial caps for a minute and think about it from that point of view. Yes, Freel is a better option, and I would start him too, but it's not as bad as you guys are making it sound. And I do understand the philosophy of saving Freel for the bench because he can play so many different posititions.
