I have great faith in Gathright at some point this season, and here's why:
I inherited a keeper team in 2004 with Juan Pierre and Carl Crawford. I didn't keep either one in the draft, not wanting to chase steals.
Later that season, I took a chance on a young speedster who was getting some quality ABs for a good team. Already trailing in steals, I traded him down the stretch for pitching help in the form of Josh Beckett. The speedster in question was Chone Figgins.
I have finished dead last in steals in the past two years, and I've had the top base stealers slip through my grip.
I had Gathright late this season, and I drafted him again this year. If you'll all just wait for me to get impatient and drop him, I'm sure he'll get traded and tear up the league.
It's just a matter of time.

wow, you didn't keep killer krawford. that was dumb.
If it wasn in an auction league and Crawford and Pierre were at non-keeper prices, it wouldn't have been dumb.
As for Gaithright, I agree that he needs to play if they are going to showcase him. While I haven't read anything about his health, maybe he has a slight tweak. Otherwise, I agree that I don't know why he isn't playing.

I dropped Gathright today, and i suggest others follow my lead. I can't believe the Devil Rays and how they abuse young talent. Gathright, Delmon, and Upton all make me so mad.
I did today as well. Fed up with his mediocre performances when he DOES play. I'll keep watching him in case the Drays ever do something to let him play regularily.
I am reminded of Utley last year. He kept playing every other day and people were crying foul. The Phils finally did something about it and the rest is history.
If you haven't caught up on the pattern yet, it's a straight platoon. He'll get a few ABs vs. lefties, as he did over the weekend when the Rays faced two straight leftes in a row.
I've seen him a lot this year. He's hitting some nice ground balls, which is what he needs to do, but they're hit hard and going straight to fielders. He either needs to slap lightly so that he can run out the throws, or hit them in holes. Just needs to work on that. Not that many fly balls, which is encouraging for a guy like him.
