I actually read an interesting article on Rotowire about oblique injuries. Basically, guys that weight train and do abdominal exercise while doing so often only work the upper and lower abs while neglecting the obliques. This leads to an imbalance between muscles that are supposed to work together which is often a precursor to injury.
I think once enough of these happen ML trainers are going to start stressing a more balanced approach to working these muscle groups.
