Need to make a second half run...pleaee advise!

Postby LeftyQB » Sun Jul 13, 2003 8:52 am

I'm currently in 4th in a 10 team Yahoo league. Here is where I stand in categories:
Hitting:
Runs - 3rd
1B - 5th
2B - 6th
3B - 7th
HR - 2nd
RBI - 4th
SB - 6th
BB - 2nd
Pitching:
IP - 2nd
Wins - 4th
CG's - 4th
Saves - 9th
Hits - 9th
ER's - 8th
BB's - 8th
K's - 4th
Hits - 5th

So, I know I'm weak in saves and earned runs. The question is who do I try and package for a top closer, if that's what I need. Below is my roster, please let me know what you think I need to make a second half surge. Thanks!

C - Posada
1B - Sexson
2B - E. Young
3B - Rolen
SS - A-Rod
OF - Kearns,Giles,Ichiro
Util - Hildago, Damon
Bench - Relaford, Wilkerson, Tucker
SP - Mussina,Schmidt,Nomo
RP - Williamson,Webb
P - Sabathia,Buehrle,Odalis Perez
Bench - Santana, Baez

SCORING:
1b - 1 pt,2b - 2 pts,3b - 3 pts, HR - 4 pts
RBI - 1 pt, R - 1 pt, BB - 1 pt, SB - 2 pts
Win - 8 pts, Save - 7 pts, K - 1 pt, CG - 5 pts, Hold - 4 pts, IP - 2 pts, ER - -1, Hit - -.5
BB - -.5

Start by playing Baez everyday. If he's on the bench, you won't get his saves. Webb is a starter.

I would move Posada. Offer him to a team with a decent C and do a package deal. Historically, Posada's power numbers decline in the second half. I would offer him and struggles in the second half. If you sell the fact that he's one of the better catchers in the game you may be able to get a closer just below the top teir. I think you could get Guardado, Percival, maybe even Foulke. Then with only 10 teams play the catcher merry-go-round. Ramon Hernandez should be on the wire.

You seem to have some deadweight: Relaford, Wilkerson, Tucker. I'd cut Wilkerson for sure and get a closer, as he's far inferior to you have have playing. Cordero will get saves for a while, if Zimmerman can return. Ditto for Hasegawa.

Webb is listed as both an RP and SP...so having him in gets me some quality points. I offered someone Posada and Scott Williamson for H. Ramierez and Magglio O.

I would try and package Kearns and someone else to get a good closer. Also watch to see if the Mets trade Benitez, someone will have to take over as the Mets closer.
