Rincon temporarily not the set-up man

Postby BeefSandwiches » Wed Apr 05, 2006 9:52 am

Apr 4 Kelly Thesier, of Twins.MLB.com, reports Minnesota Twins RP Juan Rincon (elbow) has been temporarily replaced by Twins RP Jesse Crain as the team's main set-up man. Rincon missed most of Spring Training with an elbow injury and Twins manager Ron Gardenhire feels as though it will put less pressure on Rincon to pitch the seventh inning instead of the eighth. Once Rincon has his feel for pitching back he will be moved to the set-up role.

Judging by his performance last night:

1.1 IP, 2 K's, 2 hits, 0 ER

I have no problem if he pitches the 7th or the 8th. When healthy, he is clearly a better option than Crain. As long as he's healthy and he pitches, he'll put up the numbers of a very good MR.

I was at the game last night and he looked great. His cutter was hitting 94 mph and it COMPLETELY destroyed molinas bat on one pitch. He should be back in the setup role in no time.
Here's the pitch on the way, a swing and a belt! Left field! Way back! BLUE JAYS WIN!

The only problem is most owners who have him have him for the holds, which he seemingly won't see Ops for for at least a little while. Though with the way he pitched last night, he should get back into his normal role sooner rather than later.
