Sox trying to trade Nixon?

Postby HYLRedSox » Sat Jul 12, 2003 1:26 am

This is news to me. I don't know how seriously to take it.
Jeremy Giambi is scheduled to conclude his rehab stint with the Triple-A Pawtucket today.
That doesn't necessarily mean he'll be activated tomorrow, but if the Red Sox are really thinking of trading Trot Nixon, then they can't afford to let Giambi go. Giambi has hit .258 with one homer, four doubles and seven walks in 31 at-bats for Patwucket.

I guess I don't know what to make of it...

Unless the BoSox trade Nixon, I wouldn't make much of it. Giambi has been horrible this year and they have replaced his bat with Kapler. Dump him if you got him, and don't pick him up if you don't...

I think the Red Sox will be looking at all sorts of trade scenarios (as they should), especially in an attempt to acquire another starter (Ponson? Benson?), but they'll probably explore many other options before dealing Nixon. Could it happen? Sure, but they're still very high on Nixon...

As a Sox fan living in DC, the rumor here is that there's a Ponson-Trot deal in the works. Personally, I love that trade; we don't give up any of our few but great prospects (Ramirez, Sanchez, etc.) to get a solid workhorse. Plus, every year Trot is supposed to take off, and he doesn't. He still can't hit lefties.
