Usually stuff like this does not bug me, but this makes absolutely no sense to me. Phil Nevin batting 4th ahead of Blalock & Mench and protecting Teixiera.. To me Nevin is a very 8th or 9th slot type hitter. He's far out of reach of his decent years of 1999 to 2001.. I see a very 12-14 HR, 65-75 RBI, .270 type hitter.
Guess they're really excited about what he could do. Or maybe they want to show him off for a potential trade? Although I highly doubt any team would want to pick up that salary, even if he does play pretty well.
Anyway, if he starts out cold and Blalock is ripping, I'm sure Hank will overtake him. Not too sure about Kevin Mench, though. Buck is no big fan of Mench, as we saw from last year.

I think over time Buck will like Mench due to his production. I would not be surprised at all to see Mench put out a 30+HR, 100+RBI type year.. He won the ST Cactus Leagues Triple Crown, and I think will be a pretty hot hitter this year.
he's batting 4th.... for now.
he came back in good shape, with a better attitude than last season, he started the spring well, then cooled down.
the rangers are putting him there to see what he can do...they will give him the chance to come back and be a good hitter, or fail.
it wont take them long to change up the batting order when/if he bombs.
im not a nevin fan, so i figure he'll be batting 6th or lower before long.
and buck doesnt trust mench because he isnt very good with runners in scoring position.
i love mench, but he needs to prove he can drive runners in consistently. though id rather him in the 4th spot and blalock 5, and nevin 6
