Yeah when I hear someone mention slow starters Eric Chavez is definitely one of the first that comes to mind. I've got him in my money league and was able to snag Hank Blalock late in the draft. Didn't plan on getting another 3B but he was there a lot later than one would expect so I nabbed him as a UTIL, but I have a feeling Blalock will see time in the 3B hole for the early part of the season.

Someone else mentioned Abreu. Definitely another guy to have patience with.

Much lower on the radar, but very pertinent in AL-only leagues is Casey Blake. He absolutely sucks in the first month or so. I could actually envision him losing his job if he doesn't get off to a good start. April and May he hits a combined .224 over the last 3 years. Ugh.

Last year he had a horrible April and this Spring training he only had one extra base hit. The rest of his 12 hits were all singles. Until he gets an extra base hit or two, I might very well sit him for JD Drew.

he may have had a bad first couple of weeks last season, but i remember distinctly that in late april-june he was smoking the ball... and then i traded him for the big ugly unit just before delgado went on the DL and cooled down in the 2nd half.
so i'd have to disagree, delgado, overall, is not a "slow starter" in the true sense of the phrase.
you can't live the dream, if you don't play the game

The reason for this, was because he was injured.

Yeah Chavez is historically slow, wouldnt be a stretch to bench him the whole month of april if you have a decent backup. Although he had a decent game yesterday.

Starting to think Jason Lane too. He hit .118 and 1 homerun in 68 at bats last May, .234 avg pre-all star break.

So far he's been hitless this season.
