CHICAGO -- Braves All-Star second baseman Marcus Giles appeared to be in serious pain after colliding with fellow National League All-Star Mark Prior in the second inning of Friday afternoon's game at Wrigley Field.
Prior, the Cubs' 230-pound right-hander, was running to second base on a Mark Grudzielanek grounder toward Giles when he got tangled with the Braves' 180-pound second baseman, who was elected to start Tuesday's All-Star Game.
Prior's left knee appeared to hit Giles in the left side of the head and the two both immediately went to the ground and remained motionless while being tended to by their respective medical staffs.
Braves trainer Jeff Porter had to help a bewildered Giles off the field. The 24-year-old second baseman was taken to the clubhouse for further evaluation and replaced in the game by Mark DeRosa.
Prior, who clutched his left shoulder when he hit the ground, walked off on his own power and remained in the game.
