Should I punt SB's?

Postby Lil Shanka » Sun Apr 02, 2006 3:43 pm

I play in a competitive eight member H2H Yahoo league with stat categories as follows: R, H, HR, RBI, SB, AVG, OPS, W, SV, K, ERA, WHIP, K/BB.
Here is my team:
C J. Posada
1B M. Teixeira
2B C. Utley
3B Mi. Cabrera
SS E. Renteria
OF V. Wells
OF B. Bonds
OF C. Tracy
Util T. Helton
BN M. Holliday
BN J. Gomes
BN J. Giambi

SP C. Carpenter
SP R. Harden
RP M. Rivera
RP B. Lidge
P J. Nathan
P D. Haren
P J. Vazquez
BN N. Lowry
BN C. Young

I think I have good depth and an awesome bullpen. I have the OPS and K/BB stats covered rather well. However, I am definitely lacking in stolen bases. I have no stud thieves, and so I am wondering if I should just punt the category. With 7 offensive and 6 pitching categories, maybe it won't kill me. What do ya'll think? I'm also looking to move Posada, Carpenter, Renteria, Lowry, and Wells because of personal dislike and because I feel that at least some of them are overrated. I need to pick up J.D. Drew and Jeremy Hermida off the waiver wire because they are OPS monsters.

whats your take on picking up gathright as a cheap source for steals? he rounded up quite a few last year for only 200 some odd at bats? but punting steals could be dangerous... i think you can trade away some of the players you mentioned, can you turn them into some steals?

What about Granderson? How will he do? I would like to get steals without sacrificing my OPS and Avg. Thus, Dave Roberts types will not do.

I agree you should try and look for a cheap source of steals
I wouldn't punt steals the season hasn't even started and you want to punt steal what kind of strategy is that.
