Trade Advice Please

NL-only, 14 teams (very deep), 5x5, $260 cap.

OK, I have Jose Hernandez at $7. This will be his 3rd contract year. I can keep him at $7 for one year, and $12 each year for two years, or $17 each year for three years.

Or, I've been offered a $41 Bagwell who I could keep for 2 years in exchange for Hernandez.

At first I thought "No Way" but because of the contracts and the lineup Baggs will be hitting in, I might consider it. But I'm still leaning towards no.

What are your thoughts? And if I keep Hernandez, which cost shold I keep him at?

I don't see bags retiring until 2005. I'd say it's a safe bet and 1B with that calibur have to be sarce in NL only teams. Still..to get hernandez for $12/yr would be a steal considering he's in colorado..

What are the other 1B in the league going for in comparison to Bagwell?

Helton was kept at $40. He is the only 1B of Bagwell's caliber that was kept. Baggs is not worth more than Helton.

I'll try to find a counter trade.

I agree. I would put Helton at the top. I wouldn't do that deal.

Well I don't know the state of your league but if Bags is 41 and you can keep Hernandez for those numbers I would lean towards him. I don't recall how long his contract in Colorado is for but I would not keep him for 3 years if he may only be in Colorado for a year.
