Rhodes appears to be the guy behind him (setup).

I'm sorry but I think Rhodes has zero chance of closing if Gordon goes down. I'd much rather see Madson (obviously), Brito, Tejada, or Franklin than the disproven Rhodes. Rhodes has been given multiple chances to close on numberous teams and can't get it done. Also, I was just looking at Gordon's contract and he's signed till at least 2008 so...hope the 38 year old holds up till then.

Hey, Welcome to the cafe.

There is a great thread which is "Sticky'd" at the top of the page called "2006 Closer Watch". It'll answer your closer questions quite well ;-D

I was going to refer him there, but the Philly data is out of date. Madson appears to be officially in the rotation.

Rhodes has been disasterous as closer.

So Madson can't be moved out of the rotation if Gordon goes down??? I still say he's #2 on the depth chart because Rhodes is not.

If Madson flops, maybe, but if he does what he's doing in SP, he's far more valuable in the rotation.

Yea, the owner of the thread is too busy burning and poking his Bonds doll with pins and nails. :-b

I disagree, Madson is just like Heilman only Philly's pen is even weaker than the Met pen without Heilman. If the pen can be held together without Madson thats fine. But it doesn't matter how good your rotation is on a team if the pen can't hold the lead you lose games. And if Gordon goes down Philly's best chances are with Madson closing. Maybe Brito, Franklin, or Tejada, even Fultz could possiblt surprise and take the role but they already know Madson can.
