Actually, I don't care when he gets OF eligibilty. The point is that by playing the outfield, he doesn't have to sit every 5th day, but can still fill your C spot.

I see the boost in value coming from the fact that he won't be squatting for 9 innings every game.

Would you drop Kenji for him?

I asked this the other day in a poll and it ended up being something 22-13 in favor of Kenji. I wonder if this changes anything.

No, stay with Kenji. But I wouldn't be against carrying both in this one case as both should put up some healthy numbers for a catcher.

and just to clear the issue up the real value here is that willingham will play nearly every day.

most catchers catch 3 games and take a day off. Then catch 3 more games then a day off.

willingham will catch 2 days - two in the OF, 2 catching, 2 in the OF, etc.

this would mean he should get at least 80-100 more at bats over the course of the season than the average catcher.

just the fact that he gets more at bats means he will add up more rbi and runs scored than a guy like barajas.

throw in that he's a pretty decent hitter - and you got a guy whose eligible as a catcher - but could put up middle tier OF type numbers.

BUT - if you're in a league where willingham is on free agents - then that probably also means that there are plenty of decent OF on free agents list - so it would be pointless to play him in the OF.

in regards to kenji vs willingham - I'd take willingham easily.

kenji is still having problems learning the english laguage - which creates a language barrier between him and pitching coaches pitchers etc.

I think this will eventually lead to him missing as much if not more time than the average catcher.
