rentz if you wait till he gains OF eligibility - he will already be gone.
and just to clear the issue up the real value here is that willingham will play nearly every day.
most catchers catch 3 games and take a day off. Then catch 3 more games then a day off.
willingham will catch 2 days - two in the OF, 2 catching, 2 in the OF, etc.
this would mean he should get at least 80-100 more at bats over the course of the season than the average catcher.
just the fact that he gets more at bats means he will add up more rbi and runs scored than a guy like barajas.
throw in that he's a pretty decent hitter - and you got a guy whose eligible as a catcher - but could put up middle tier OF type numbers.
BUT - if you're in a league where willingham is on free agents - then that probably also means that there are plenty of decent OF on free agents list - so it would be pointless to play him in the OF.
