It's not just last year.
2001: Shoulder injury costs him 6 weeks ends season early.
2002: Strained left elbow limits him to 69 IP
2003: TJ surgery
2004: Returns from TJ, but ends season early in Sept.due to elbow pain and concerns about throwing too much after TJ
2005: knee injury

In short, Bedard has never stayed healthy enough to throw more than 141 IP in any professional season.

He also doesn't fair well against righties. And there are some big right handers in the East.

You'd think that but, his career Whip vs lefties is much higher than vs righies and the BAA vs righties is .003 lower.

I was actually basing that statement on his 2005 splits, but point taken though.

He's got the makeup to be a great SP. He's a bit moody from what I've read though so I think he'd be prone to get down especially if he has a nagging injury (which he's always seemed to have so far). If he gets healthy and gets on a role though he could really put things together. He's got upside but it comes with a lot of injury risk as well as a guy that's going to have his own personal ups and downs that may cross over into the field on occassion.

The guy knows how to pitch.....Works both corners well with a nice fastball...It's very sneaky fast. He has a nice and easy delivery and the ball explodes out of his hand....Above average change and curveball to go with the fastball....I like this lefty alot.

If ESPN's new scouting dealybob is accurate, Bedard works both corners versus righties and only low and away versus lefties. Seems like he could benefit form a slow speed, higher movement change like Jamie Moyer throws and which lefties can seemly only pull foul. Bedard 2005:

He is not dedicated. His knee injury was supposed to sideline him for a month at max, and it ended up keeping him out about half the season. I would definitely think he would be worth a roster spot in a ten team keeper league.
