If this is Dusty's decision, it is pure stupidity.

Dusty makes no decisions more then 1 second before it needs to be made. I'd say sitting down with the 3 players is meaningless he'll probably tell them that Kerry Wood is going to play 2B
I'm too lazy to make a sig at the moment

The stupidity continues. Like Pogo said, any deficiencies in defense are easily made up by a solid left handed bat.

Jerry Hairston (OF) ChC appears to have the edge at second base for the Cubs over Todd Walker and Neifi Perez, according to the Chicago Tribune. Dusty Baker said he's planning to sit down with all three players sometime soon to discuss the situation.
- Code: Select all
PLAYER AVG G AB R H TB 2B 3B HR RBI SLG
T Walker .324 16 34 8 11 20 6 0 1 11 .590
J Hairston Jr .286 20 49 11 14 18 4 0 0 4 .370
abomination.
Baseball Prospectus prefers Hairston, too, so it's not totally crazy.
what is their determination based on?
What I've read from BP suggests Walker should always be in the lineup versus righties. Not sure where you read the prefer Hairston.

Agree. Especially when you consider that the Cubs' starters are primarily fly-ball pitchers.

Walker really isn't that horrid a second basemen. His FRAR2 (adjusted fielding rate above replacement level player) was 9 the last year. In comparison Soriano was at 2, Cantu 12. Nine isn't good, but not as extremely bad as Soriano.
