well, I would like to try and find an "overall top 100" type ranking. the cafe rankings are only by position, right?

We've been working on getting a straight ranking list together by voting on things. Caveman_Nick could probably feel you in on the details of how he set it up but basically it involved everyone nominating whomever they thought deserved the next spot and then having a run-off vote between the top two. We're up to 63 at this point but you can see the list with the link above.

Personally I like using someone's projections along with a tool like MmmmmBeer posted. Xeifreak's Mock Draft software is awesome with projections as well although you have to massage some people's projections a bit to get them into his software. I actually used Zips projections as my main drafting tool this year plugging it into Xei's Mock Draft software. It let me do some practice drafts against the computer drafters and then do manual drafts where I would enter every pick and use the VORP rankings at each position to help me plan my next picks. If you use Zips projections though do yourself a favor and just delete Mike Lowell altogether...his projections for Lowell are WAY, WAY off.

By the way, Rotowire's baseball package isn't bad at all ($39.95) they have a nice custom points/dollars calculator there, cheat sheets, great articles, very good customizable news and projections that are downloadable to Excel. They have a free 10 day trial too so if you really wanted to you could sign up for the trial, get the cheat sheet and the projections and then not pay the $39.95. Honestly though after you get a look at what they offer you'll most likely shell out the $39.95 anyways.
