He said it in his sleep - who heard this? Who reported this to the authorities? Did the wife do that?

Sounds to me like someone doesn't want to be married and came up with a great way to go about annulling the nuptuals.

I would imagine the wife brought it up, reluctantly, the next morning or maybe even that night, and, being people of strong faith, they did what was right according to their custom. I just thought it was so strange that a spoken dream by her husband is going to force this woman to marry another man, if even for a short time.

If you love your husband and want to stay in the marriage, don't you just keep your mouth shut? If she reported this, devout or not, she wants out.

Maybe she didn't initially know he was asleep or something. But, seriously, these people are serious in every way about their faith, and it would not surprise me if she was honestly reluctant and sorrowful, but told the "awful" truth anyway.

Maybe they didn't think anything of it and mentioned it to friends or something and they turned them in.

The woman said she'd kill herself before having to marry another man so I don't see why she would turn it in.

That could just be posturing, so people don't think she made it up.
