I've been reading a lot of topics this year and last, and there is always the mention of punting categories. I've been thinking about what categories are worth punting, or not, and I would love to see a list of THE MOST PUNTABLE CATEGORIES!!! In a 5x5 h2h, I think that you can get away with punting 1 as long as you are dominant in the others. So please, great minds of the forum, expand my thinking with your knowledge!
you heard it here...
Seattle Mariners 2007 World Series Champs!
Felix Hernandez = 35 wins, 400K!
i can dream...
it's easier to punt categories in h2h than roto and i would think it would be easier to punt saves since there's plenty of quality middle relief guys who help you in your other pitching categories but don't touch saves whereas there aren't that many guys who help you in all the hitting categories but don't touch sb's at all.
I think punting categories just doesn't work, in roto that means you are already giving up like 10 + possible points, so you have to dominate the other 9 categories to have a chance to win because your top available score is lower then everyone else.

I disagree. It is easier to punt sb's since there are not many guys that will get enough sb's to make a difference. Whereas if you drafted for power/avg. you could get some guys that slip through because someone took Figgins, Suzuki, Pierre, Pods.
I don't think you can punt cats and win, but with the depth and uncertainty of SP this year, you don't need to punt cats. You can load up on bats and RP/saves in the first 9-11 rounds and pick up 5-7 SP in the later rounds.
I never intentionally punt categories pre-draft as I think that can backfire on you. I draft the best available players I think I can when it is my pick. If I end up obviously deficient in one category after the draft then I punt it. If I have anyone on my team that excells in that one category I will look to trade him.
