Okay, he's not an elite second baseman and he plays half his home games at RFK. But he's pretty serviceable when healthy. How come he doesn't seem to come up in conversations about second tier second basemen such as Biggio, Iguchi, Cano, and Ellis?
I'm not saying I like him, or that I'd even draft him. It just seems weird that his name hardly ever even comes up.
He's a good guy to have on your squad as you probably could have gotten him in say the 19th-20th round of your draft, and he has proven to be a very productive player when healthy. There are concerns about his health and whether he can hit in that ball park, but I'm willing to take a risk in those rounds.....
He could end up being a nice fantasy 2b this year.
Do you guys think he will put up better numbers than Garret Atkins this season? I'm trying to decide on whether to start figgins at second and atkins at third or start vidro at second and figgins at third.
his home park is bad, he is coming off a serious knee injury, his home park is bad, and he wont steal bases. also, his home park is bad. he should be a contributor in batting average, but i think his homers and rbi wont be special and you'll get the goose egg in stolen bases. he isnt awful, but i roll the dice on the biggios, belliards, and barfields before getting to vidro.

stick with atkins and figgins.
Vidro is nowhere close to the four second basemen that you just mentioned. He is a decent end game pick because of his batting average upside, but that's about it.

Atkins and Figgins, UNLESS both Atkins and Vidro are on the road.

To expand on what The Jury said, Lowell's bat speed has been very bad and there is no health-related reason for it. He's healthy...he just can't swing the bat like he used to swing it. There's nothing but rumors at this point but things seem to be shaping up in a way that the Red Sox are trying to put in contingency plans in case Lowell doesn't work out.
