When he got shelled in that first outing he wasn't even throwing his curveball. He only threw two pitches, the fastball and changeup, and he was working on variations of the two. This is why ST stats can be misleading sometimes. Statistically Young has been underwhelming but the Padres seem to be fairly impressed with him.
Maine has a good swing for a pitcher but on anything that moves, he has no chance. And if it's a fastball, it has to be up in the zone. Basically, the pitcher has to hit his bat. - Mike Pelfrey
