Yahoo Winners League, Public, 5X5 ROTO
I ended up with the 10th overall pick.
C - Jason Kendall (Round 21)
1B - Richie Sexson (Round 5)
2B - Mark Loretta (Round 13) ~ 100+ runs as Red Sox #2 hitter?
SS - Derek Jeter (Round 4)
3B - Morgan Ensberg (Round 6) ~ This was a mistake. I took too long to pick so Yahoo picked for me...I had wanted Chipper Jones or Huston Street or Chad Cordero....AAAARGGHHH
OF - Coco Crisp (Round 9) ~ 100+ runs, .290, 15+ HR, 15+ SB ???
OF - Jason Bay (Round 2)
OF - Brian Giles (Round 10)
Util - Travis Hafner (Round 3)
Bench - Brad Wilkerson (Round 20) ~ Rangers leadoff hitter in front of M. Young, Teixeira, Nevin, and Blalock.
Bench - Adrian Beltre (Round 14) ~ Worth the risk in the 14th...
Bench - Jay Gibbons (Round 16) ~ O's cleanup hitter in front of Roberts, Mora, Tejada....
SP - Johan Santana (Round 1) ~ Surprised to get him at #10 overall
SP - Brandon Webb (Round 8)
RP - Scot Shields (Round 17) ~ Best setup man in MLB
RP - Jose Valverde (Round 12) ~ Could dominate if he can stay healthy...
P - Barry Zito (Round 7)
P - Danny Haren (Round 11)
P - Derek Lowe (Round 15)
Bench - Erik Bedard (Round 19)
Bench - Daniel Cabrera (Round 18) ~ Raw talent, can throw 100+ mph from time to time...Lots of Ks
I have mixed feelings about this team. I have some big bats (Bay, Hafner, Sexson), some speed (but not a ton, but quite a few 15-20 SB types), good contact hitters...but nothing overwhelming unless almost everything falls into place. Wilkerson and Crisp in particular could have HUGE seasons or they could be hugely disapointing...
I've always been able to get 3-4 closers but this time I wanted to go cheap...but not this cheap. 1 closer and 1 elite setup man might not be enough Saves-wise...My pitching can be great but it could also flop which is why I drafted 7 SP...I only need 4 to perform well.
I have lots of hitters eligible at 1B/OF if I need to trade for pitching...Also got Beltre at 3B because I was furious that I got Ensberg in the 6th round by mistake....
