How many hits can a team have in a normal 9 inning game WITHOUT scoring a single run (this would definetely blow up your WHIP, while it would be great for your ERA )
ANd how can this happen??

I believe the answer is 54, 6 hits per inning. If a runner is struck by a ball in play, the runner is out, and the batter is credited with a hit. Thus, the last out of each inning is made when a runner is hit by a batted ball (the other two out are made with runners either caught stealing, trying to stretch a basehit, or also hit by batted balls).
Yep, Eugene! Thats right! Believe it or not, 54 hits, and probably no run...
And the explanation is right, too. The only way to accomplish this, is when the runner is hit by a batted ball, that way, the batter gets a hit, but the runner is out!
