LAKELAND, Fla. (AP) — The Detroit Tigers have unconditionally released first baseman Carlos Pena, who has struggled during spring training.
Pena hit only .160 with one home run in 50 at-bats during the spring.
Last year he split the season between Detroit and Triple A Toledo.
In Detroit he hit .235 in 79 games, with 18 home runs. He batted .311 with 12 home runs during his time with the Mud Hens.
