Gomes is a big time possible bust for 06 imo. I think his chances of hitting 230 are much greater then his chances of hitting 280 again. He should be a good source of some homers as I imagine if he plays the entire year, his home run totals will near 30. He should draw a few walks, and with Maddon wanting to run, he will probably get some more steals. But that strikeout rate of 1 out of 3 at bats, is just flat out scary. Even as a huge Dray fan as I am, my hopes are for Gomes to keep his BA near 250 for this upcoming year, but of course my ultimate goal is for Mr. Young to take his RF spot by June. :-°

Striking out 113 times in 348 major league at bats won't win you much playing time, especially on a team struggling to find room for Delmon Young and B.J. Upton, two far superior players to Gomes.

Gomes BABIP was far higher than a normal players, meaning his average last season was higher than it should have been (luck went his way).

Pass.

Gomes is someone I plan on watching pretty close this year. Not because I think he will be good, but because I just flat don't know what to expect out of him. Some stats really make him look overrated and as a big bust candidate, so I managed to not wind up with him this season, but definitely want to keep an eye out for the '07 season.

Nice writeup. ;-D

The difference between Howard and Gomes is that Howard has a starting job and Gomes doesn't. Gomes is stuck in a very deep Tampa Bay outfield that doesn't even have Delmon Young in the majors yet.

Gomes is actually an excellent outfielder. With 150 games he might reach 30 HR. Good call Eddie.
