Can't really call IRC new, its about as old-school as there is on the internet outside of usenet.

You can also use eMule. It's similar to Limware/Kazaa, but you can download full albums from just about any artist. It can take a while to download (even with cable internet), but it's worth it. I have found several obscure artists on there. You can also download full box sets of artists.
