Abreu Concern

Abreu's performance was way below par during the WBC. After the loss to the Cubans on the second round, many fans - who traveled from Venezuela and stayed at the same hotel as the Venezuelan team - complained that they saw the team celebrating Abreu's birthday the night before (with Abreu and Carlos Guillen very drunk by 3 AM, with a game to play in 10 hours)...

... In Fantasy terms, if this was true, I wouldn't care much that he had a blast drinking before a game (specially since this is not the season)... but if the gossip is not true, it would mean a rusty Abreu to start the games...

Any thoughts?

no concern here....maybe it's a good thing and will lower Abreu's value if he starts off slow

Don't worry about Abreu. You know what you're getting with him. He normally starts slow, but he'll get you his normal .290-.300, 25-30 HRs, 100 Rbi, 100 runs and 20-30 SB.

Half-truths and bias. If by "many," you mean "Eskin," then yes.

In reality, his decline in September is attributed to lingering leg and shoulder injuries, which kept him from playing winter ball for the first time since he was 15. The sustained OBP but decline in SLG in September is evidence of that. He had a strong August, but his performance in July was a mess.

Team Venezuela in general struggled with hitting during the WBC. The total at-bats from the WBC for each player ended up being less than a week's worth of games. Anyone can have a bad week, and Team Venezuela unfortunately all had one at the same time.
