Merkin Valdez...?

does anyone have an opinion about this guy?

is he still highly touted?

will he be affective in san fran?

what are some possible projections?

I pretty much thought he was overrated a few years ago when everyone started liking him. Now a few years later and he hasn't done anything to change my opinion. He has a good FB, but really that is about it. Now he is going to be 24 and his numbers at AA were merely alright. He would be better utilized if he was switched to the pullben, which I think they will this year or next. Personally I'm not sure he can succeed as a closer cause he doesn't have that one great second pitch to go w/ his FB yet.

would you take Edwin over Scott Baker or Tim Stauffer?

Baker would be the safest choice out of those 3, since he has pitched well in AAA and major last year. He should develope into a middle to back of the rotation type pitcher, while Edwin is more risky though he has better potential. Not much of a fan of Stauffers, he might do alright since he will be in SD, but he doesn't have big potential and I'm not sold on his arm staying healthy.
