Unorthodox Strategies

Postby PreservedFish » Sun Mar 19, 2006 4:48 pm

I remember reading long ago that the big Tout Wars tourney was won by a guy that drafted only $1 pitchers.

Punting saves, or punting stolen bases, or even HR/RBI.

Monkeying around with low IP or AB requirements.

Anyone had success with any of these strategies?

in a 4x 4 ---Pick one strter such as Randy Johnson in his prime then pick 8 pitchers in the minorsform $1.00 each. Johnson or whomever should lock up era and h/r. Then with your remaining money pick all great hitters with the object to finish 1st or 2nd in each offensive category.

We created a penalty pont for finishing laset to combat this startegy.

sure it is ..

it depends alot upon the league settings of course, but I have won with it in the past. You really need to focus on matchups ... Allot. :-o

I am trying it again this year in this league here. Hoffy is a keeper that is why he is 15.00 but everybody else will be 1.00

the one league I'm thinking about doing something funny like that is a standard 5x5 ... but it is a draft, which changes things a bit. The equivalent to the $1 pitching staff I guess would be not drafting a pitcher until round 10 or so

I'm also open to other ideas. I want to try something fun

This isn't unorthodox though in a standard draft, it's actually close to what you should do. I like to grab a solid ace (round 3 or 4) and grab my 2nd pitcher around round 10.

Well after sitting in on my first 5x5 draft of the year yesterday and looking at quite a few ADP's, I can tell you that pitchers in general are falling this year big time. This is my main $200.00 league too. Same group of guys for a couple of years.

here are the Arms that went after round 20.

A guy in my league last year only used relief pitchers and came in 6th only 2 point ahead of me!

With my amazing staff though, I beat him in WHIP. Figure that one out.
