Do you have to find pictures on say, Google, and then cut around the player? In your Peavy tutorial (which was excellent by the way), you had a pre-made render of the pitcher. Just wondering where you got it and others. Thanks again.
Usually you have to just search google, but this site has some very good high quality picks, but for a smaller range of players (usually the bigger stars). Usually that is the first place I check and if they dont have what I need there I go to google

some people use the free GIMP. adobe photoshop is very expensive unless you dont want it to be (http://www.phazeddl.com).
I'm having a very difficult time gettign the phazeddl photoshop unless I spend like $30, and I don't understand where to access the GIMP stuff...can you point me to a specific link or provide more directions? Thanks

Sorry, another question. I'm not sure why it's on this thread, but I'm trying to follow chargerfan's tutorial for my first sig and I also think this post deserves more time at the top. Anyway, I was wondering how you (chargerfan or anyone for that matter) get a perfect cutout of the player that you want to use. I read the stickied FAQ and it mentioned the magnetic lasso tool. Now, I am pretty much as inexperienced as they get with Photoshop, so bear with me, but I'm still having trouble extracting a player from an existing image. In the tutorial, Peavy is already cut out and it looks nearly perfect. How did you manage to do this? http://photostore.mlb.com/source/Detail.aspx?L1=&L2=&imageId=56010618&action=search&ss=lane here is the image that I am trying to cut out. I am having some difficulty along the top of the hand, the top of the helmet, and the bill. Any tips would be greatly appreciated

I find that the helmet and bill are always one of the hardest places to get a good cutout. Usually I just go with the magnetic lasso and it looks a bit rough at first (sometimes you have to guide it on your own) and then zoom in to 300-500% with a 3 pixel eraser and touch up the rough edges. There are other methods to cut the players out, which I'm sure if you do a thread you will find (pen, feathering, extract, polygonal lasso, etc.). Player cutouts is the hardest thing to "learn", more than anything it takes practice and finding a method that works comfortably for you
