Is Swisher worthy of a 4th OF spot? Can he hit 270?

Not unless it is a deep league or a league that counts OBA.

I think he can hit .270 but that is his ceiling.

If Swisher had even average luck last year, his BA would have been .260. Swisher had one of the lowest BABIPs out there, so his BA really doesn't reflect how well he should have done last year. He's a good gamble as a 4th OF, especially given his chance to improve. He could legitimately hit .270-.280 with 30 HR this year (although I'd count on something more like .265/25)

edit: looking at this thread and another one on the A's, it really seems like people are down on Swish. He had a HORRIBLE BABIP last year (.266) which was completely out of line from his minors BABIPs (which have been around average). Otherwise, he knocked 22 HRs in his rookie year in 460 ABs while maintaining a 10% walk rate (which is quite good). His ISOP was .210, which is already pretty good, and give his age, this could grow even higher. I said he's worth drafting late as your 4th OF.... That's certainly true, but I'm thinking he's going to be a pretty good sleeper overall. There just aren't a lot of guys with 30 HR potential sitting around at the end of most drafts. ;-)

Would you rather have Wilkerson or Swisher as a 4th OF?

I would take a shot at Wilkerson. In that ballpark he should rebound nicely. Qualifies in the outfield and at first base. Swisher is bound to lose playing time if Thomas stays healthy. Somebody has to sit. They also have Payton who will see lots of at bats.Swisher is a switch hitter but also K's way to much.

Wilkerson in Texas is better than Swisher in Oakland. ;-D

But I think you'll see Wilkerson drafted more than a few rounds ahead of Swisher if you're playing with knowledgable owners.

Wilkerson will be MUCH better THIS SEASON, yet Swish can be had as an FA and Wilkerson will need a draft pick spent on him.

Sean Tracey has my apologies, we all know Ozzie Guillen is an idiot. I'm rooting for you!
