Top Closers in Baseball?

Postby OldEnglishD » Sun Mar 19, 2006 2:25 am

Who are the top closers in baseball, in your opinion? Lets say consider keeper leagues in mind also. Rivera? Street? Izzy? Nathan? Lidge? I am interested to know...

Ive got a slew of starting pitchers, and can afford to dish one off to help my nearly non existing RP staff. I am thinking Street. opinions?

I think K-rod and Lidge have abused their breaking balls. They appear as injury liabilities to me but they are very good.

I imagine you would have to part with quite a bit to get Rivera but he has to be the best. The last thing I would want to do is trade for a closer that might get hurt or lose the closer role so I would target these guys:

Rivera
Wagner
Nathan
Ryan
Street

If you don't want to give up much in a trade these guys in my opinion would be the best value:

Valverde
Ray
Gonzalez

I have Lidge and Jenks as my only relief pitchers. I hear Jenks isn't looking too good, but I need two.

Do I pick up Politte or Hermanson?

If your only option for getting another closer comes from Chicago then it would be Cotts. However there's no guarantee that Jenks loses the job so you can't really drop Jenks to pick up Cotts.

I wouldn't drop Jenks, but a bench player instead. I'd keep three closers.
