Diary of a Failed Catcher Strategy...it happened again.

Postby The_Idiot » Sat Mar 18, 2006 11:47 pm

Damnit, I did it again. For the 2nd straight year I am basically catcherless. Well, I have Ryan Doumit if that counts. Problem is we start 2 catchers.

Yeah, I know I did it to myself. I picked last in a 12 team 5x5 roto. I had debated taking V-Mart in the 3/4 spot. (see the ling below), Unfortunately, that decision was made for me as he went with the 10th pick in the 3rd round. So things rolled along, I picked up guys like Dunn, Pierre, and Kent. Then Joe Maur was taken as the 3rd pick of the 5th round. Ok, no problem there. Still plenty catchers left. Through Round 14, Varitex, Posada, Pudge, R. Hernandez, Lopez, LoDuca, Willingham, Barret and Johjima went off the board.

In the mean time, I stocked my team with Nathan, Crisp, Mora, Lackey, Gomes, Webb, Duke, Cliff Lee. Valverdem, Lowry, and Baldelli. I fwas confident that I could get a catcher in Rounds 17 and 18. But then it happened, before it got back to me, Molina, McCann, Kendall and Pierzynski were off the board. At that point, I gave up on the position. Didn't care when Piazza, Lieberthal, Estrada and Buck went off the board. And hence with the 324th and final pick of the draft, I selected RYAN DOUMIT. Ughhhhh.....How did I let this happen again.

Now I will scrounge the wire for the likes of LaRue, Closser, and Toby Hall.

Well, your name is....The Idiot....

:-b Just kidding.

Doumit's ok and odds are, some FA catcher will wind up putting up decent numbers.

Ouch. IMO, you were screwed from the start with that 12th pick.

I actually like LaRue this year. I'd grab him if he is available.

Also, if you have the bench spot available get Valentien as well and between the two of them you have a top notch catcher

If Navarro misses time early, consider grabbing Russell Martin. BA considers him a top prospect and he could be a guy that sticks at the major league level once he gets a chance.
