Tris speaker was also invovled in the same contraversy, but it happend ten years before the hall ever opened. Cobb was also one of the orginal six elected to the HOF, so i don't think he was actually banned.

Sorry, sometimes it's nice to simply ask a quality trivia question. And without having to participating in a corporate sponsored high pressure timed event, which is lost in it's own forum where a smaller and distinctive community roam.

The only two I know of were Joe Jackson and Pete Rose, still banned.

Unless I'm wrong and completely misread, you need to reword the question. The only possible player that had a career EQA higher than Joe Jackson and has retired after the MLB actually had a rule banning players from the Hall is Edgar Martinez. Players on the ineligible list were not banned from the Hall until 1990.

Both of the players I'm thinking of were retired, elected to the hall, then temporarily banned from associating with major league baseball and both players have higher career EqAs than Jackson. I severely doubt anyone in the baseball world would claim they both were not greater players than Joe Jackson. These players were temporarily banned pre-1990. I may have made a slight error in interpretation. The reference I have does not technically specify banned from the HOF, it only indicates they were "banned from associating with major league baseball". I assume that would apply to the Hall as well.
