Ehh. I just don't see why this year would be different from the past two times when Reitsma closed. He just doesn't have the stamina to make consecutive appearances.

I think Devine is worth a flier. Reitsma won't last, he's more suited to a 7th inning role. I'm willing to gamble on a late draft pick that the Braves have a new closer by May.

Reitsma has actually done very well for Atlanta as as setup guy. Both times he closed were preceeded by him pitching excellently in an 8th inning role.

I thought I did and I thought your earlier post had an article saying:

That's not saying he's not still on that path. But at the same time, there isn't any reason for the Braves to rush his development by forcing him to prove himself as a big-league closer right now. It might be in everyone's best interest if he begins the season back in the Minors and regains the confidence that might have been shaken last year.

I would not be suprised one bit if Devine was not given the opportunity to close for the Braves come May or June.

Joey Devine gave up his first three earned runs in nine innings this spring today against the Cardinals.
