most leagues dont play with holds and if you want K's im sur eyou can find someone better. Still a bit too early for me to jump on Devine. Reitsma is probably going to be the opening day closer and he'll get every chance to close out games.

I agree. Unless you have a lot of bench spots, I don't see a need to snag him just yet unless holds are a cat in your league.

And that's cool. Your post seemed to indicate that all leagues count holds and I would say that most don't. In a standard 5X5 league, he doesn't have a lot of value.......yet.

Reitsma is going to be great this year. Was horribly unlucky last year, something like 40-50% of the hits given up last year were of the infield variety.

Reitsma has been given the closer's job two times and lost it two times. The only real problem he seems to have is that he tires easily in consecutive outings. After a day or two of rest, he's lights out, but when he has to close consecutive games, he often falters. He's a really good guy to be setting up, and I think he'd do well as a SP if anyone wanted to convert him (the Braves have plenty of starters at this point). Like I said before, he'll probably start the season as the closer, but don't be surprised to see Villareal or Devine in that role by mid-season.

A few notes on Villareal-
He was REALLY good for the Diamondbacks in 2003 but was over-worked to the tune of 98 IP in 86 appearances. His lack of success in '04 and '05 can be attributed to this over-work and resulting injuries. (He's pitched a total of 31.2 innings since 2003.) The Braves acquired him in the Jonny Estrada deal, and if the WBC is any indication, he might just return to 2003 form this year, in which case he'd make a pretty decent closer.

Oh, and also, for Roto leagues with IP limits, relievers who can give you high K/9 rates and strong ratios are often times very good uses of bench spots. I expect Villareal and Devine to more than justify a roster spot, especially when you consider that they might turn into closers.

Reitsma was a SP in Cincy and wasn't particularly good... he was pretty good last year, especially in June/July... got hurt later, and was just ridiculously unlucky. I think he's going to surprise some people this year to be a pretty decent closer.

I forgot, how many points do you get for a minor league strike out? :-?

Sounds like he's going to start the season on the farm.

Uhh... there's about more chance of Jose Reyes putting up an OPS over .800 than Devine starting in the minors.
