What does my team need? WHIR

Postby JohnnyBenchBest Ever » Thu Mar 16, 2006 5:13 pm

In an h2h 6x6 (R,HR,RBI,SB,BB,AVG,W,SV,K,HLDS,ERA,WHIP) keeper league.

What does my team need?

I've made a few trades and now have two roster spots open and I'm not sure what to pick up.

My league counts holds- I have one holds guy- and figure I should use one open spot on that (or do I use both).

I'm not sure what to do with the other. Do I get a young prospect or a veteran type guy? Who would help most? Do I pick up a 2B - that's the only position I don't have a backup.

Is it a risk keeping both Barmes and Crosby at SS. (I'm thinking of a platoon there - Barmes at home and Crosby on the road)

Any help would be appreciated.
My team looks like this right now.

C Willingham
1B Helton
2B-3B-OF C. Figgins
3B S. Rolen
SS C. Barmes
LF-3B M. Cabrera
CF G. Sizemore
RF-LF J. Gomes
UTIL(1B-OF)B. Wilkerson
UTIL(LF) Holliday
BN(SS) Crosby, (CF) A. Rowand
Pitchers
SP Halladay, Willis, Pettitte, Schmidt, Lee, Escobar
RP Wagner, Dempster, Valvede
HLDS Linebrink

Guys on the WW
N. Swisher (Oak - 1B,RF)
Á. Ríos (Tor - RF)
C. Counsell (Ari - 2B)
P. Feliz (SF - 1B,3B,LF)
A. Kearns (Cin - RF)
M. Kotsay (Oak - CF)
M. Lawton (Sea - LF,RF)
J. Encarnación (StL - CF,RF)
L. Ford (Min - LF,CF,RF)
O. Hudson (Ari - 2B)

HOLD GUYS
J. Devine (I hear he's the set up guy)
G. Majewski
L. Ayala
A. Otsuka
C. Qualls
D. Wheeler
D. Marte
S. Schoeneweis
R. Villone
J. Putz
K. Mercker

You're offense looks fine.

I'd pick up Dan Wheeler, who is the 8th inning guy for Lidge.

I'd then pick up Devine, who will probably end up taking closing duties from Reitsma sooner rather than later.

What do you think about the idea of a platoon at SS with Barmes and Crosby?

I completely agree, Devine and Wheeler seem like the best guys to pick up. The Devine pick could end up being keeper material to boot.

I'd go with Devine and Wheeler as well. Otsuka isn't a bad option either.

I think Crosby and Barmes will be pretty solid. I'd probably start Crosby though. If one or both of them gets hot you can always trade one of them later on in the season.

I can only use 8 total pitchers a week. I already have 10. If I add 2 more pitcher spots I would 4 on the bench each week.

Do you still recomend that I add 2 more P. giving me 6 SP, 3 Closers, 3 holds guys?

Thanks

I think you should pick up Devine and look at picking up Counsell or Hudson for some backup security at 2B.

What about the kid from Texas - Kinsler? I hear good things about him.

I'm thinking about adding Swisher (maybe 2B) to one of my open spots.

I'm going to add another HLDS guy.
That takes care of the 2 open positions.

I'm also thinking about dropping a SP and adding another holds guys.

If I drop a SP that will leave me with 5 good starter, 3 closer, 3 HLDS guys.

Is this a good idea (5 SP, 3 RP, and 3 MR)? Or do I keep 6 SP, 3 RP, and 2 MR?
