Oakland's offense is terrible.

I'm suprised no one has put up a rant against Oakland's lack of offense. Mulder's line: 9 innings, 3 hits, 0 bb, 1 er, loss. LOSS? 8-o What? 8-o Let the complaining begin!

Yeah I did notice, but it made me smile since I don't own him.

Another thing that caught my eye - Byrnes joined the KKK. He's now like 2 for 20 in his last 5 games. Methinks the magic may be over..

Byrnes has done nothing but have hitting streaks this year. I think there's some magic in that old bat yet.

...uhhh....not Sosa magic. I mean hits. Maybe another cycle (if he can get another generous scorer).

I was at this game, and also Oakland's loss to Moyer last Monday.

It's the same old story - the A's are horrible at manufacturing runs. Yesterday the Angels executed textbook small ball to get their man home after a leadoff double. The A's, meanwhile, swung for the fences. Same thing against Moyer.

I commented to my friend that it's too bad that Interleague play hasn't taught the A's how to play NL style ball. Is it Valentine who always says, "get 'em on, get 'em over, get 'em in."

It'll be the same old story when the playoffs come round. Until the A's learn how to run the basepaths, advance runners, and score that one run in a close game they are destined for a first round exit. :~(

The A's use the same basic philosophy of the Jays (in fact the Jays copied it off the A's because their GM is a former assistant to Beane) that they don't believe in sac bunts, squeeze plays or steals because they don't want to give up outs. This works fine for the Blue Jays because they have the firepower to mash people to death, but the A's just don't have the same offense to be able to not play small ball, especially against a tough pitching staff.
