Joey Devine: Atlanta's closer in the making??

Postby lefty31mazur » Wed Mar 15, 2006 4:35 pm

Atlanta's Joey Devine has 14 strikeouts in seven innings. He could fight for the closer job, he could easily overtake Chris Reitsma if he starts the season out strong.

I have Reitsma(definitely not bragging) and I just picked up Devine.
He'll close sooner or later..hopefully sooner!

Ditto.

I have Reitsma so I dropped R. Wagner and picked up Devine. MY league counts holds so I'm happy with Devine even if he doesn't close.

From Sporting News:

Manager Bobby Cox told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution that Devine is in the running to be the Braves' closer. Devine hasn't allowed an earned run in eight innings this spring and picked up the save Wednesday.
Fantasy Source spin: Sleeper alert, sleeper alert, sleeper alert. I'm among the doubters when it comes to Chris Reitsma, so Devine is looking like an excellent late-round pick. (Chris Bahr/TSN)

Devine gave up 3 earned on Sunday...I imagine Bobby Cox will be keeping a close eye on how he reacts his next time out.

They are talking about trading John Thompson for some bullpen help. I don't really know how I feel about that. Is that saying they are not comfortable with the closer's role and looking for an upgrade??? They should just let Devine go with it (especially since I have him on my fantasy team ;-) ).

from what ive read, they are looking for a lefty in the bullpen, not necisarily a closer.

true

I don't think they are trying to trade for a closer option. They have that problem solved in house with Reitsma/Devine.
