I work at a television station and around 11:30 this morning a call came across the scanner that there was a shooting a few blocks away. Our cameraguy shows up and finds the victim lying on the ground and immediately realizes the guy is dead. The crazy part is that he also recognizes who the police escort out of the house.....one of our custodians at the station.
The funny thing is I had a conversation with the guy a couple days back and he mentioned to me how he had some guy living in his apartment that he was getting tired of and was going to ask him to leave in a few days. This custodian is a great guy from what I knew of him, had 2 kids, great neighbor, never heard a bad word about him, and he even called 9-1-1 himself and turned himself in. This makes me think it had to be self-defense. He probably asked the guy to get his stuff and get out and there was an altercation.
If anyone here knows much about the justice system, how much time (if any) is he looking at for self-defense? I realize we never really KNOW someone completely but I just find it very hard to believe that this guy is a cold-blooded killer.
Moral of the story: Don't trust office custodians.
Sounds like you're just assuming it was self-defense when you have no idea what went on. Most of the time, people just don't shoot other people in self-defense. Do you even know this guy? There are alot of serial killers out there who seem like nice guys on the outside, but just happen to take a liking in dismembering prosititutes in thier homes. If I were you, I would just let the authorities deal with him.

Your custodian friend is looking at time, no question about it. It'll be pretty tough to prove he needed to kill the other guy to protect his own life.
When I was a server at a suburban St. Louis restaurant, one of my fellow servers was arrested for murder. He was later convicted of murdering a two-year old by bashing its head into a toilet and tub; a child who was accidentally conceived by its mother during her very first sexual experience at the age of seventeen. The mother was a server at the restaurant, too.
And unlike other stories you hear about murderers, we always thought that guy was creepy. Too bad we were right...

The great state of Illinois did away with the death penalty. He's serving life.
