Not "so bad that's it's good" either... just bad.
Good horror movies know how to use suspense. There should be moments of calm, interlaced with sudden moments of extreme terror. In 1000 corpses, Rob Zombie just slams on the gas at the beginning of the film and never takes his foot off the pedal. There is no moment watching that film where the viewer can relax and get comfortable. When a likable nice-guy type character is introduced that you "hope" may bring some sanity to the film, Zombie *immediately* kills him or her on camera in a grotesque and disgusting way. There are no likable evil characters in the film either. The killers are supremely sadistic, stupid, and disgusting, unlike much more well-done villians such as Hannibal Lector. Dr. Satan was very cool looking though.
I have to confess one thing here- I still want to see it again for some reason. Maybe now that I know what I'm getting myself into I'll enjoy it more.
