ERA, WHIP and BA ...

Just curious if anyone has any input on how much these stats can change from here on now that we're half way through.

I think some managers are tricked into thinking that aquiring a top notch pitcher can actually help their overall ERA and WHIP, but sometimes it's just too late. Conversely, trading one away may not really hurt these categories either?

I think that a team's BA can be drastically changed from here on, but the ERA and WHIP cannot.

Any views on this? Any interesting articles out there. Statistically endowed guys care to comment?

Well my team ERA has gone up .42 in the past four weeks (thanks, Mulder, Vazquez, Morris), so I definitely think it's possible to have your ERA change quickly. WHIP is harder to move, but it's possible. AVG changes noticeably almost daily.

Here's my take on it:

The season is half over, which means that you have half of your at bats and innings pitched. Let's say your team batting average is .280 right now. If your team hits .300 the rest of the way out, then you will finish around .290. If your era is 3.50 and your staff posts an era of 3.00 the rest of the way out, then you finish around 3.25. Same for whip. Let's say you are at 1.20 and your staff posts a 1.30 whip the rest of the way out, you finish around 1.25.

Significant ground can be both gained and lost right now in all 3 catagories.

The previous post was very accurate. You probably won't drop from first to worst, but you can drop significantly.
