Tips to Online Poker?

I didnt read any of the posts, but low limit poker is a losing cause. If you play 5000 hands a week at 1/2 Nl and you win 8% of the hands, your losing $1200 a week to the rake $5 and 10 sngs are even worst. If i was you, i play in tournys and try and get a big score

Ok, I play 1/2 NL all the time and I consistently come out with $700 or better after a few hours (I go to Atlantic City 2 or 3 times a week now). Remember it's No Limit so all it takes is 1 or 2 bad calls for you to make plenty of money.

thanks for the tips.. im playing a free roll tourny as we speak.. can i win money from it? i think it said i could win 50.. not sure cause i didnt pay.. just curious.. how do online tournys work and whats the deal with freerolls..

The prize list should be in the tourney's lobby.

yeah came in 14th made 60 cents... sweeeeeeeeet... notta bad way to kill 2-3 hrs if you wnat that little of money lol

Freerolls are wicked hard to win. Because just like regular tourneys you need a little luck and some skill to win. I recommend you just buy into 1 site with a nice bonus and start building from there.

Where do you play? Max buy in is $300 where I play. Yeah I only log like 20-30 hours a week. That'll change as soon as it's warmer.

Im talking about online play, but casino rake is even worst.

8% of 5000 hands is 400 hands. Correct?

$3 rake x 400 = $1,200. Correct?

I usually play at Caesars Casino and the max rake is $4 (or $2 with 5 or less people). You're right math doesn't lie, but players are much worse in Casinos then online and it's also possible to get reads on players, which is also another key ingredient to a player's arsenal.

Online rake is not that bad at all.

At PokerStars I personally get raked on average:
7.5c per hand at 1/2NL
6.0c per hand at .5/1NL

These numbers are extremely accurate (over 20k hands at each level).

This adds up to:
$375 for every 5K hands at 1/2NL
$300 for every 5K hands at .5/1NL

I think you're right with the fact that if you are winning 8% of your hands you'd be losing money. But law of averages would give you 11% winning % on a 9 man table. Granted I believe that if you want to be successfull at poker, you want to be shooting for 13%-16% over that span of time. It's all about knowing when to play those hands and how to play them to get you up to that 13% and beyond.
