who is the guy with the idea of infielders backing each other up?

its kinda hard to phrase.

can you ask this question in a different way? Are you asking who is suppose to backup the infielders or who is in charge of their "practice sessions"

Just read that Ray Schalk was the first catcher to back up at first and third...don't know if this was a truly original idea (i.e. maybe an infielder did it first) still seems like an ok guess.
