John Schuerholz has a new book coming out saying that the Braves and Pirates agreed to a trade that would send Bonds to Atlanta. The Braves even scheduled a press conference, but at the very last second the Pirates pulled out.
Imagine how much that would have changed baseball history.

All those 100+ win teams would have more WS appearances/wins, that's for sure. In the '93 NLCS, alone, Games 1, 4, and 5 were all lost by a single run.

Probably because Schilling started 2 of those games and he, um, knows how to pitch.
It's funny to hear about these things that GMs coulda/woulda/shoulda done. I saw an interview with Gillick a week or two ago and he was talking about his reign as Mariner GM. He said that he traded the wrong guy. Griffey said he wanted out, so he dealt him and kept ARod thinking he'd have a good shot to re-sign him. But had ARod been dealt, Junior probably would have been ok with staying around and being BMOC.
Interestingly enough, he had talks with Atlanta about ARod, and a deal would have included Furcal and others. You can't help but wonder how it all would have turned out had things been different.
Actually, I like LaRoche as a sleeper pick this year. He had good numbers platooning with Franco and IF he learns how to hit lefties and righties, I like him.
Also, about Bonds, if he had gone to Atl I doubt he produces like he did in SF. Something about that California Balco connection I hear about, lol.

That's pretty amazing. Was it during the season in 1991 or after the season?
Makes you wonder if the Braves would have beaten the Twinkies in '91???
Hey cords, when does this book get released? Do you know the name of it?
That's awesome. No doubt the Brave might have appeared in a few more Series than they did. Who knows maybe they might have won have won against my Yankees (I doubt it though ).

I actually remember that trade being talked up big around here. It seems like it was Keith Mitchell, Alejandro Pena, and a minor leaguer for Bonds.
