Drop Valentin for Mora?

Postby Bender » Thu Apr 18, 2002 11:43 am

Now, first off let me say I am desperate for steals, and Melvin has 7 so far, so should I drop Valentin for him to get some steals and avg (don't need avg really)? I only have two guys with 3 sb's (ichiro and wilson) and a few with 1. I am almost last in that category. Is he just off to a good start or could he go on with it, at least for a while?

Well, seeing as Mora's career high in steals is 11, I think it's fair to say he won't quite keep up his pace, although 20-25 isn't out of the question. I'd probably just wait for Ichiro to heat up, but dropping Valentin isn't a huge risk to take.

Close call, but I'd stay put.

Yeah, he does play for Baltimore after all, I really don't think you need to worry just yet. I could get Eric Young off FA, too.

Young

Postby cwebb » Thu Apr 18, 2002 7:31 pm

I'd get Young, Mora isn't even a safe bet for a starting spot when Jerry Hairston Jr. returns but Young will have the oportunity to steal a lot of bases.

If you're in a non-keeper league you don't need friends, so grab Mora, try to trade him and then grab Young asap! >:-)

Things are starting to get interesting now: Mora has unexpectedly retained the leadoff spot even though Jerry Hairston has returned. Assuming this situation lasts (and I think it will), Mora will have the green light often. Dropping a Valentin-caliber player for him might be a good move at this point.
