Cintron traded

Postby Pochucker » Wed Mar 08, 2006 2:26 pm

D-Backs just traded Alex Cintron to White Sox for minor league reliever.
Seems strange move since Counsell is damaged goods at this time. Maybe trying to make room for Drew?

Or they are still desperate to shore-up their horrible bullpen, if it so happens that the minor league pitcher is MLB-capable.

I'd guess this would be good for Drew. If Counsell does go out for the year, who else will they have? Damion Easley?

Cintron provides the White Sox with a better backup option in the MI positions than Pablo Ozuna. Him and Mackowiak will probably get a chunk of playing time filling-in for regulars.

IMO, this is BAD for Drew. Sounds like he is going to be rushed through the minors. Maybe good for his wallet in the long run becoming a free agent very young, but not so good from a developmental side. Only time will tell.

The papers around here have been saying Cintron was most likely going to be traded this offseason at some point. White Sox fans should enjoy him. Prone to make errors, but he's got some pop in his bat and he's a good bad ball hitter.

And god knows we could use the relief help.

Isn't Drew only about 19? I know that he's an unbelievable talent but I'd still like to see him get some more time in the minors.

Nope, Drew will be 23 this year as he was drafted out of college. On the possibility of him starting, the D'Backs also traded for Callaspo a bit earlier who can play SS and 2B. They can start Drew at AA or AAA and give him more time if they need it.
