Also Need Input on My Second Team Ever

Postby Fame Throwa » Mon Mar 06, 2006 4:10 pm

Hi, everyone.

Like another poster today, this is just my second fantasy team ever. I'm in a 11-team league, and should point out that the statistical categories favor pitching over hitting. The categories are R, HR, RBI, SB, E, AVG, W, L, CG, SHO, SV, K, ERA, WHIP, K/9. I'm afraid that I didn't consider the effect of the imbalance until most of the top starting pitchers were gone. I tried to do my best with some potential sleepers, but am a little concerned that I'll spend the whole year doing my impression of the Kansas City Royals.

I'd appreciate any comments on my team. I'll also comment on others' rosters for those who provide links. Thanks!

C: Jorge Posada
1B: Mark Teixeira
2B: Jorge Cantu
3B: Eric Chavez, Ryan Zimmerman
SS: Jimmy Rollins, Clint Barmes
OF: Bobby Abreu, Brian Giles, Brian Wilkerson, Matt Holliday, Jonny Gomes

SP: Ben Sheets, Jason Schmidt, John Lackey, Kelvim Escobar, Zach Duke
RP: Mariano Rivera, Tom Gordon, Jose Valverde, Mike Gonzalez

If it helps, the positions are C, 1B, 2B, 3B, SS, OF, OF, OF, Util, SP, SP, RP, RP, P, P, P, BN, BN, BN, BN, BN, DL

an 11-team league??? thats wierd...

You have a very nice team for your 2nd fantasy draft ever. Your hitting is solid and very good. I would try to package Giles and Escobar/Duke for an upgrade at SP. Your RP's are good, but I would add at least 1 more big name to the SP's. Overall, solid team!

Thanks for your input, DC! I do seem to be a little long in the outfield.

Thanks for your comments, Jeetz.

How concerned should I be about the imbalance between the offensive and pitching categories? Should I be concerned about the fact that I don't have a backup catcher or second baseman?

id be a little concerned about not having a backup catcher, because jorge posada doesn't start every game (neither does anyother catcher). Overall your pitching is good, but you might want a third starter or reliever, like a brad radke/john patterson, or a dany baez/brian fuentes. Those are very acheivable trades, since they are both pretty under rated for their solid numbers.

I don't think you ever need a backup catcher, unless it's a secondary position for someone else that regurally plays. If for some reason the catcher goes down with an injury just pick up a temp from the waivers. There are only a handfull of really good catchers so it doesn't really matter.

Thanks, jd and thunder_stick. Both your comments highlight the importance of having players who are eligible for multiple positions. I thought about that a little in drafting Cantu, but then forgot about it for the rest of the draft.
