Ben Sheets Injury Update?

Postby ferris182 » Mon Mar 06, 2006 12:28 pm

Does anyone have an update regarding Ben Sheets' health this year?

I know that he was hurt last year and I was wondering if he's going to start the season healthy?

Any updates?

I hope he's OK - I drafted him a little bit too high in one league (stupid Yahoo rankings having him in like the top 10 pitchers - thought better of it immediately after I hit the Draft button in the 6th round), and am hoping it won't come back to bite me.

Anyway, I haven't heard anything negative about Sheets, and the news on MilwaukeeBrewers.com is that he will be the Opening Day starter.

I would definately draft him in my top 10 starters. I don't agree w/ yahoo most of the tiime, but you will likely regret passing on him. I would bet that he will be fine. I drafted him early and not thinking twice about it. ;-D

He should be fine this season. He's been taking batting practice (as the Brewers have been emphasizing hitting by their pitchers this ST), and i can't imagine they would allow him to do that if his health was still a real concern.

Sheets in the 6th round is an absolute steal, injury concerns or not.
I personally think Sheets easily puts up Top 10 pitcher stats in 2006.

BTW - Good to see you back posting again ES. How long's it been since you've been around, 2 years or more?

Well, I forgot to mention it was a 7 team league, and it was early 6th round. I think I shoulda waited at least a round - there were better guys available. But as long as he's healthy, I'm not too worried about it. What worried me was that I wasn't even *aware* that he was injured... ;) Reminds me of people that drafted Aaron Boone in 2004.

Thanks. Good to see you and everyone else here too. Yeah, been about 2 years. Suddenly just got the bug again. :-D I'm not likely to be as active here as I've been the last 2 days or so, but I'll be around at least intermittently this season.

Sheets leaves game in the first :~(

March 9, 2006

PHOENIX (AP) -- Milwaukee right-hander Ben Sheets left the Brewers' game against the Oakland Athletics in the first inning Thursday with irritation in a muscle in his right side.

The irritation is in the same area that led to a season-ending injury last Aug. 26. He will see the team doctor Saturday.

Sheets allowed six of the seven batters he faced to reach base, giving up five runs on six hits. After Jason Kendall's RBI single, pitching coach Mike Maddux visited the mound. Moments later he was joined by manager Ned Yost and head trainer Roger Caplinger.

Sheets was Milwaukee's opening day starter last year but also was on the disabled list twice, once with an infection in the inner ear and again with a torn muscle in his right shoulder.

Zane Davis replaced Sheets.
