"Think of how stupid the average person is, and realize half of them are stupider than that." ~George Carlin
I tried doing this in our office league as I know everyone and we've been playing for a few years. We did our draft yesterday and I was probably a bit more ready for it, even though I didn't guess right on everyone.
We only had 10 guys this year and knowing who people were after on my team last year, hearing conversations about stratefy amidst the smack talking and all that, it seemed like a reasonable approach. One guy seems to have decided to punt HR and try the MR strategy out of the blue so I whiffed on him but other than that, it was amusing to play around with. Oddly enough, no 'runs' took place. When VMart went (3rd round I think...) nobody picked a C for a while after that. Same w/ Rivera and other closers. I didn't have any in my draft either so maybe I got something right?
Very good, but if you have this based off of your rankings, you have Berkman too low. You also have Harden too low too I believe if you wanna snag him based on what I have seen thus far.
I took Wright and Bay in our office league which I was 8/ 10 in but did not manage to pull that off in the Café league at 12/12 and ended up w/ Mike Young and Bay, which is ok too. It's pretty dicey in that spot as those guys are kind of a 'pick'em' and Wright has been getting lots of press. If they are there at 10 and 11 though, I think that they are a great combo to have. I was thinking of MCab as a backup as he's been bashed for the lineup but he was gone by the time it got to me in both drafts.
I like putting Berkman (my 3rd pick in the 10 team...) in the OF and grabbing one of the larger 1B bats in that 4-7 range as well as I think that the OF later in the draft aren't going to hit as many HR as say Dunn or Sexson or Paulie KoKo. SP wise I ended up w/ CZam, RJ, Haren, Doug Davis and Odalis Perez w/ Liriano as a 'flyer'. I suspect that they will be a bit shakier than your staff BUT, while holding off on the SP just a bit I was able to sneak off w/ Dunn AND Sexson as well!! .
just my opinion, but for only a 10 team league I would think you could get better closers than that or at least one more closer to give you more depth. And you reached for Delmon, IMO.
Otherwise it is a good practice to get you ready. Good Luck.
Definitely reached for Delmon, even if he makes the team which isn't a sure thing he is likely to be pampered a bit and is going to struggle at times. Unless this is a keeper league and you didn't mention it.
